Dynamics of Explosions in Cylindrical Vented Enclosures: Validation of a Computational Model by Experiments

Recent explosions with devastating consequences have re-emphasized the relevance of fire safety and explosion research. From earlier works, severity has been said to depend on various factors such as ignition location, type a combustible mixture, enclosure configuration, equivalence ratio. Explosion venting proposed measure in curbing impact, design vent requires deep understanding phenomenon. To address this, Venting Analyzer (EVA)—a mathematical model predicting maximum overpressure characterizing an enclosure—has recently developed coded (Process Saf. Environ. Prot. 99 (2016) 167). The present work is devoted methane because natural gas—a common fossil fuel used for domestic, commercial, industrial purposes—has its major constituent. Specifically, dynamics methane-air vented cylindrical enclosures scrutinized, computationally experimentally, that accuracy EVA predictions validated by experiments, Cantera package integrated into identify flame speeds. results rear-ignited show good agreement experimental results.
